Oops! Scammer tries to rip off a scam investigator

(Scams, National Consumer Protection Week) Permanent link

One thing you hear often from us: a warning never, ever to wire money to strangers. Once you do so, the money is gone forever.

A common way people hear from such suspicious strangers--who are usually situated in unknown, foreign lands--is through e-mail. Unfortunately for one scammer (and hilariously for the rest of us), one of these fraudsters recently contacted KING 5 investigator Jesse Jones. Before scamming the scammer, Jesse stopped by to speak with our own Consumer Protection Super-Lawyer Shannon Smith. See the video below. My contribution is the inadvertent laugh track. I remembered to silence my cell phone, but not my own trap.

And remember: don't fall for Sad Sonja!

Yeah a cash advanced company just scamed me for 235$ I'm embarrassed to say. But unusual thing is there at it again with a new scam. Any help would be great [ALL CONSUMING MODERATOR'S RESPONSE: You should file a complaint with our Consumer Resource Center at: https://fortress.wa.gov/atg/formhandler/ago/ComplaintForm.aspx.]
