Second-Year Law Students - Paid Law Clerk Positions

The Washington State Attorney General's Office traditionally hires approximately 45 second-year law students each year for paid summer law clerk positions. The present salary for second year students is $13.67 per hour. The salary for second year students with a cumulative of one year of experience clerking with the AGO is $14.65 per hour.

First round interviews are held in October and are conducted either on campus (for in-state law students only) or at various locations throughout the state. After the completion of the first round interviews, successful candidates are invited to a job fair in mid-October for second round interviews with divisions interested in hiring law clerks.  Applicants participating in the job fair will either receive an offer of summer employment or be included in our second-year law student hiring pool. We notify all students of their status by the end of October.

The deadline to apply this fall has now passed.

Qualified applicants are those who are currently enrolled in law school and who excel academically as demonstrated by law school grades and class standing, and who demonstrate a high degree of competence based on prior experiences. The AGO seeks applicants who are committed to public service as demonstrated by an applicant's background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice. We also seek applicants with a diverse background in education, previous work experience, law school activities, extracurricular activities, community service and areas of interest that enhance our office.
