DPDlogoJanuary 28 is Data Privacy Day, an international event promoting awareness of how personal information is collected, stored and shared – and how that information may be better protected.

Attorney General Rob McKenna and King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, who are Co-Chairs of Washington’s Law Enforcement Group against Identity Theft (LEGIT), are taking this opportunity to ask businesses to reinforce their work to protect consumer data.

LEGIT, whose members include legislators, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, business and financial industry security professionals, and private sector associations working to reduce identity theft in Washington, have prepared a risk reduction letter designed for businesses and business organizations providing tips about how to avoid data security breaches and better protect customer privacy.

The AGO website also has a wealth of information for both individuals and businesses on how best to protect personal information.
