Posthumous Award for Service

Deputy Anne Jackson
Skagit County Sheriff's Office

On September 2nd, 2008 Deputy Jackson responded to a resident’s call for service in Alger’s Silver Creek Neighborhood.  She arrived unaware a suspect was waiting in a position of ambush.  Deputy Jackson engaged the individual however his tactical advantage was insurmountable and she was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Jackson had been with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office for over six years. 

Officer Kristine Fairbanks
U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations

On September 20th, 2009 Officer Kristine Fairbanks was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle in the Olympia National Forest near Sequim. She  radioed dispatch that she would be checking on a van with no license plates, after which she encountered a suspicious person.

When dispatchers were unable to reach her, troopers were dispatched to check on her and found her. Her K9 partner had not been released from her patrol vehicle and was uninjured.

Kristine Fairbanks was a Law Enforcement Officer for the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations for over twenty-two years.

Corporal Chris LeBlanc
Vancouver Police Department

On July 18th, 2007, Corporal LeBlanc, as a member of the South West SWAT team, was shot in the torso during the hostage rescue mission. Corporal LeBlanc was protected from further assault by other members of the team.

Corporal Chris LeBlanc has been employed as an officer with the Vancouver Police Department since April 1997 and returned to full duty status in October of 2007.

Vancouver Police Department

Officer John Key has been employed with the Vancouver Police Department since December 1994.  On the morning of July 18th, 2007, Officer Key, as a member of the South West SWAT team, responded to the hostage situation.  While under fire, Officer Key was involved in rescuing Corporal LeBlanc, who had been shot.

Sergeant Scott Schanaker
Clark County Sheriff's Office

Sergeant Scott Schanaker has been employed as an officer with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office since 1991.  On the morning of July 18th, 2007, Sergeant Schanaker, as a member of the South West SWAT team, responded to the hostage situation.  While under gun fire, Sergeant Schanaker was involved in rescuing Corporal LeBlanc, who had been shot.

Clark County Sheriff's Office

Deputy Scott Holmes has been employed as a deputy with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office since of June 2000.  On the morning of July 18th, 2007, Deputy Holmes, as a member of the South West SWAT Team, responded to the hostage situation.  While under fire, Deputy Holmes was involved in rescuing Corporal LeBlanc, who had been shot.
