Attorney General

Bob Ferguson

Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna and his family handed out boxes of cereal, bags of rice and canned veggies Wednesday morning to hundreds of needy families.

Rob and RobertThe McKennas and Assistant Attorney General David Kerwin, of our Antitrust Division, enjoyed volunteering at Northwest Harvest’s Cherry Street Food Bank in downtown Seattle – one of three hunger relief organizations selected to receive $570,000 in assistance as part of an antitrust settlement with vitamin manufacturers.

The Cherry Street Food Bank is one of the busiest food banks in the state, serving more than 2,000 people on full-service days. The place was bustling, as many people were picking up staples for Christmas dinner. The attorney general handed out frozen chicken, a special item available for the holidays, while the rest of the gang had a great time serving up nonperishables like pasta, oatmeal and muffin mix. The youngest McKenna couldn’t wait to make a kid’s day by providing a pack of red licorice vines.

Our check to Northwest Harvest for nearly $190,000 will provide more than 860,000 meals.

Northwest Harvest clients weren’t the only ones well-fed today. By volunteering, the McKennas, Kerwin and many others were nourished by priceless feelings of goodwill and holiday cheer.
