OLYMPIA – The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) announced two new developments today. Robert Miller, formerly from Chehalis, was sentenced Wednesday to four months in jail for fraudulently taking nearly $30,000 from the state’s Medicaid program. Last year state prosecutors charged Miller with First Degree Theft and Medicaid False Statement because he submitted forged documents and submitted bills for services that weren’t being provided. Miller has also fully repaid Medicaid.
The MFCU prosecution team was Assistant Attorney General Aileen Miller and Investigator Beverly Maddox.
The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) last week charged an Olympia ophthalmologist, Behrouz Pirouzkar with Medicaid fraud. He faces three counts of First Degree Identity Theft, one count Second Degree Identity Theft, Medicaid False Statement, and two counts of First Degree Theft.
The Attorney General’s Office says between 2002 and 2008, Pirouzkar billed Medicaid nearly $49,000 for procedures that patients did not receive. He’s also accused of using PIC (Personal Identification Code) numbers belonging to patients and others in order to bill Medicaid. The charges were filed in Thurston County Superior Court. Pirouzkar will be arraigned on Tuesday.
The MFCU prosecution team is Assistant Attorney General Dawn Cortez and Investigator William Lemp.
