SEATTLE – Attorney General Rob McKenna today announced a $19.5 million multi-state settlement with Purdue Pharma. Washington will receive $719,500 from the agreement, which resolves allegations the company aggressively marketed its painkiller OxyContin to doctors while downplaying the risk of addiction.
SEATTLE – You may be owed money if you paid for a video subscription service from Movieland.com, bought Spyware Cleaner software or a Sony BMG music CD, or were billed for a shopping service or travel club you didn’t want. The Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division says thousands of Washington consumers are potentially eligible for refunds for products and services as a result of government settlements. But with deadlines rapidly approaching, those consumers need to submit their claims soon in order to receive payment.

EVERETT — A loan officer accused of stealing funds from her customers’ mortgage loan proceeds was sentenced today to six months in jail and another six months of home monitoring, Attorney General Rob McKenna announced.

OLYMPIA - The conclusion of an 11-month inquiry into alleged violations of humane slaughter, worker safety and food safety laws at the IBP, Inc. beef packing plant in Wallula was announced today by Jim Jesernig, director of Agriculture; Gary Moore, director of Labor and Industries; and Attorney General Christine Gregoire.
Washington is among 12 states' attorneys general taking action against fraudulent credit repair companies as part of "Operation Payback," a nationwide crackdown announced this morning by the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. In all, the 12 states and the FTC filed law suits against 13 firms.
