Videos, music deployed to fight drug and alcohol abuse

GRAND MOUND – Teens from all over the state will compete to present the best peer-based programs to combat drug and alcohol abuse, violence and other destructive behaviors.

Forty-two teams will participate in the 2010 Spring Youth Forum, which culminates in a final competition by the top vote-getters. Teen participants will vote to decide the winners. Last year, the Music Mentors of Thurston County’s inspirational hip-hop program earned the top prize.

The finalists – six groups of teens – will compete for a grand prize: a scholarship to a    national youth-leadership event. Awards will be presented at 5:15 p.m.
    
The Attorney General’s Office has dedicated more than $300,000 from consumer protection settlements with drug companies to help fund prevention programs, including the 2010 Youth Spring Forum. The forum was planned in partnership with the Department of Social and Health Services Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery.
