In 2006, the division helped defend three class action cases and brought to a close difficult litigation over faculty salaries. Noteworthy projects included assistance in designing and implementing a university-wide Enterprise Risk Management approach to reducing liability and improving regulatory compliance. More information about the division can be found on the university's Web site.

Agreement for Sound Transit Station. This year the division helped conclude negotiation and drafting of an agreement with Sound Transit for construction of a light rail station next to Husky Stadium and operation of the Link Light Rail project under the Seattle campus. The agreement accommodates the station and grants related easements while protecting University priorities and providing compensation for the property loss and project impacts.
Campus Safety. The 2007 murder-suicide at Gould Hall combined with the tragedy at Virginia Tech prompted a dramatic increase in reports of potential workplace violence and a review of the UW’s processes for assessing such threats. Division attorneys helped revise procedures and policies and participate in a new committee to review safety concerns of individual students and employees.
Pediatric Dental Clinic. Division attorneys prepared and helped negotiate a contract with Children’s Hospital to build a new pediatric dental clinic at Sand Point. With the support of a $5 million grant from the Washington Dental Service, the new clinic will dramatically enhance the dental services available to patients at Children’s and the region and open up new avenues for teaching and clinical experience for UW faculty and students.
