YAKIMA – The Attorney General’s Office is proud to join forces with prevention leaders across Washington for the 2008 Washington State Prevention Summit this week at the Yakima Convention Center. As a rally leader for the Prevention Jam, Attorney General Rob McKenna will join students and adults in demonstrating their commitment to improving Washington communities. The jam begins at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

OLYMPIA – New laws requested by Attorney General Rob McKenna dealing with mortgage foreclosure schemes, identity theft, spyware and third-party marketing of cell phone numbers will go into effect on Thursday CUT 1 - MCKENNA IDENTITY THEFT LAW (:32) ANCHOR: NEW LAWS ON THE BOOKS TODAY, INCLUDING TWO LAWS

The new program provides an opportunity for the state’s more than 60,000 homeowners and owners of nearly 1,400 communities to file complaints with the Attorney General’s Office. Staff in Seattle investigate complaints, provide informal dispute resolution and, when appropriate, issue fines for noncompliance with the state Mobile/Manufactured Home Landlord-Tenant Act. Officials said they believe the program provides a balanced approach.
With spring and summer vacation season upon us, Attorney General Rob McKenna has a few tips for travelers to help keep them safe from identity theft while away from home.
State wins Top-Two Primary Supreme Court Argument
Olympia…With the 2008 legislative session now over, Attorney General Rob McKenna offered an end-of-session legislative report. Not every bill requested by McKenna passed this session, however the office scored victories for consumers with the passage of bills to assist identity theft victims, prevent mortgage rescue schemes, improve the state’s spyware law and prohibit third-party marketing of cell phone numbers.
OLYMPIA – In conjunction with National Consumer Protection Week, Attorney General Rob McKenna issued comments today centered on the protection of Washington’s residents against scams. In addition to legislation supported by the Attorney General’s Office and the numerous outreach programs, McKenna’s statements focused on consumer tips and the car sale “bushing” scam.
OLYMPIA— Attorney General Rob McKenna announced Washington state will join 14 other states in intervening in a California lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The lawsuit filed today in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals challenges the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to deny California’s request for a waiver to implement its greenhouse gas emissions standards.

OLYMPIA—Attorney General Rob McKenna today released his 2008 legislative agenda, incorporating the work of a myriad of task forces and work groups into a solid group of community safety, consumer protection and government accountability initiatives.
