AGO 1963 NO. 19 >

(1) It is the duty of the county treasurer to check the tax rolls upon the request of mortgagees and to give a statement as to what real property taxes, if any, are owing on property in which the mortgagee has an interest. (2) Same :  The treasurer may not charge any fee for such service. (3) Same :  The treasurer would be subject to liability if he fails to exercise reasonable care in making a search. (4) Same :  There is no duty upon the treasurer to sign the report he prepares, but because liability may arise as the result of negligently prepared reports, it may be advisable to sign the report for authentication purposes.

Where a person is found mentally ill in proceedings brought under chapter 71.02 RCW and committed to a state hospital, the state and not the county is liable for the cost of detention for any period of time which elapses between the entry of the order of hospitalization and the time an ambulance arrives to transport the patient to a state hospital.

AGO 1962 NO. 110 >

(1) A county may be liable (a) for the cost of hospitalization and care of an injured county jail prisoner depending upon the prisoner's financial status; (b) for damages sustained by a county jail prisoner injured through negligent conduct attributable to the county. (2) Where there is a possible county liability, insurance may be purchased for the county by the board of county commissioners.

Under the provisions of RCW 43.01.090 the Department of Public Instruction is liable for the housing cost of the floor space assigned to or occupied by it.
