The state Department of Financial Institutions recently identified 10 investment scams as the most likely to trap Washington investors. Among the culprits:

  • Ponzi schemes
  • Unlicensed securities sellers
  • Promissory notes issued by little known or non-existent companies promising high returns.
  • Unscrupulous brokers
  • Affinity fraud
  • Prime bank schemes
