U.S. Postal Inspectors unveiled a new consumer education campaign aimed at reducing fraud involving fake checks and wire scams -- a growing problem in Washington state. You can test your ability to detect these scams with an online quiz. The campaign uses funny videos -- including real people and hidden cameras -- to get the point across. 'Fake Out' videos show how ridiculous these stories sound when they're told by a stranger who approaches you in a bowling alley or on the basketball court. Yet, many consumers fall for these exact pitches when contacted by cons online, by mail or over the phone. Since January, investigators led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service have arrested 77 people as part of a global fraud crackdown and stopped more than 500,000 fake checks from being mailed to American victims.
