Have you ever been contacted by someone who claims you may have some missing or unclaimed property that you didn’t know about? These businesses offer to locate your missing assets for a fee. But you don’t need to pay money to get yours back because you can search for unclaimed property for free. The Department of Revenue maintains an online “lost and found” database at http://ucp.dor.wa.gov/.  Enter your name or your business' name to find out what’s waiting for you, click “pursue claim” and follow the instructions. You may be asked for proof of ID and your address.Typical unclaimed property includes bank accounts, insurance proceeds, stocks, bonds, utility deposits and uncashed payroll checks. I ended up receiving a check for about $20. My sister and stepfather have money waiting for them too!
