“Con artists have come up with another devious way to steal your money. Their bait: cute little puppies. It starts with an e-mail or a classified ad, and it ends with disappointment and a drained bank account.” Thus begins a KOMO 4 report about nice folks who think they're saving a pet but instead are scammed out of thousands of dollars.

Heart-broken consumers have contacted us, too. The Better Business Bureau and American Kennel Club issued an alert about online scammers posing as breeders. Don’t get suckered. Never wire money to a stranger. And heed this additional advice from Consumerman Herb Weisbaum: “I would never deal with someone wanting to ship me a puppy from overseas. Never. You could get a sick puppy, or you could get no puppy. Then what do you do?”
