The most frequent gripe we hear from consumers who bought concert or sports tickets online is the hefty service fees that these companies sometimes charge. But a business named TicketsMyWay.com appears to have a questionable policy to punish consumers who try to dispute charges for tickets they paid for but never received.

The Better Business Bureau issued a warning this month about TicketsMyWay.com, which is run by Las Vegas-based Event Tickets LLC. Consumerman Herb Weisbaum also wrote a rather critical report for MSNBC that includes interviews with several folks who paid for concert tickets that didn’t arrive. According to the story, a woman who paid $364 disputed the charge with American Express and was credited. But that wasn’t the end of it.

This summer Schmitz received what appeared to be legal papers from Event Tickets. They wanted her to pay $364 for the tickets she never received, a $125 termination fee, plus a penalty fee of $72. … Like many online ticket brokers, TicketsMyWay.com does not make exchanges or accept cancellations, and it rarely offers refunds. But its policy on disputed credit card charges – spelled out in paragraph 19 on the terms and conditions page – is highly unusual.

That policy says that customers who dispute charges with their credit card providers agree to pay a litigation fee. That likely violates the credit card company’s policies.
