Attorney General Rob McKenna was in Yakima this weekend, taking part in a march against gang violence. David Mance of KAPP TV explains:

A Yakima woman who says her son died from gang violence, is fighting back peacefully.

Tammy masters is one of the organizers of the "Day of Hope" event. Marchers will end up at Miller Park in Yakima, after starting off at Millennium Plaza. Masters' son "Mo" Adams died last year in a shooting. Police looked for Hispanic suspects at the time, but weren't sure if they were gang members.

report from KHQ TV underscores the problem in Yakima:

This year alone, there have been more than 20 shootings so far. Many of which involve teens and young adults. State Attorney General Rob McKenna says to fix this problem and prevent more shootings state laws need to be changed.

AG McKenna spoke to the Yakima-Herald's Mai Hoang about his participation in the event:

"I believe this event sends a message that the community is taking action," he said in an interview after his speech. "(It) shows young people there is an alternative to hopelessness or gang violence."
