FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

OLYMPIA – Attorney General Rob McKenna was honored with the Washington State PTA’s “Friend of Children” Award during its 95th Annual Convention in SeaTac on Saturday. The award is the highest given by the Washington State PTA, and is presented to a group or individual performing outstanding work on behalf of children throughout the year.

McKenna was recognized by the PTA for his Internet safety efforts and initiatives, specifically his work to protect children from the online dangers of online predators, spyware, child pornography and cyberbullying.

In honoring McKenna, PTA President Laura Bay called him a “true friend of children,” and said, “His work on internet safety, especially in providing tips for parents and for children about the safe use of this valuable resource, has made an important contribution to the welfare of our children here in Washington and across the United States.”

Since taking office in 2005, McKenna has provided statewide leadership on a range of issues aimed at improving the lives of children in Washington, including Internet safety, protecting communities against sexually violent predators, assisting law enforcement in the war on meth, preventing teen identity theft and working to reduce underage drinking.

More information about all of these efforts is available on the Attorney General’s Web site.
