AG Ferguson: Kitsap County towing company to repay former Navy sailor for selling his car at auction
PORT ORCHARD — Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced today a court order will require a Kitsap County towing company to pay a former Navy sailor for illegally selling his car at auction. The order also requires it to implement specific policies so it will not harm service members in the future.

AG Ferguson: Sham charity must pay $95,000 to be donated to legitimate veterans’ charity
Attorney General Bob Ferguson today announced that a sham veterans’ charity is legally required to pay $95,000 to Washington state. Healing Heroes Network Inc. deceived donors into believing most of their donations would help provide medical care for wounded veterans. In fact, it spent less than one percent of individuals’ donations on veterans’ medical care. For example, in 2016, the charity received $2.7 million in donations nationwide, yet spent only $1,128 to fund veterans’ medical care.

Charity can pay veterans back wages as a result of $1 million payout in AG lawsuit
TACOMA — As a result of Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s lawsuit, non-profit organization Veterans Independent Enterprises of Washington (VIEW) has received $1 million — the maximum allowed under its insurance policy — to pay its creditors, including 74 veterans who are owed wages. The employees’ claims range from $192 to $48,925 in unpaid wages, totaling $310,489.37.

AG Ferguson: Court orders $490,000 go to authentic veterans charities after judgment against Washington-based sham charity
TACOMA — A Pierce County Superior Court judge ordered a charity that deceptively claimed to help veterans to pay a total of nearly $1 million in restitution and financial penalties. The sham charity’s sole officer, Michael Friedmann, told consumers and donors their donations would benefit veterans and their families when none of the money raised did.

AG Ferguson: Judge rules towing company broke the law when it sold active-duty service member’s car
OLYMPIA — As a result of a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Bob Ferguson, a Pierce County Superior Court judge ruled today that a Tacoma-based towing company and its owner, Kristine Zachary, illegally auctioned off vehicles owned by active-duty military service members.

OLYMPIA — To mark the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance (OMVLA) today announced a centralized calendar of upcoming free legal aid clinics across the state. These events, which are coordinated with community partners, provide qualifying military personnel and veterans with free assistance for a range of civil legal issues.
