FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SEATTLE – Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna’s office today ventured into the blogosphere. The Attorney General’s Office launched “All Consuming,” a blog dedicated to consumer protection issues that has a less formal tone than some people might associate with a government agency or law office.

“A blog gives us an opportunity to communicate in a new, in-the-moment way to an Internet-savvy audience,” McKenna said. “Check out ‘All Consuming’ for consumer-friendly advice that is anything but stuffy, dry or boring.”

The first post on “All Consuming” focuses on new technology that police say makes it easier for them to track down stolen vehicles and how consumers can reduce the likelihood that their cars will be filched.

Staff in the Public Affairs and Consumer Protection divisions will post messages and monitor e-mail from readers. McKenna said he also plans to blog periodically.

“With ‘All Consuming,’ we will deliver scam warnings, comment on emerging marketplace trends and discuss legal issues that affect businesses and their customers,” McKenna said. “We’ll direct readers to helpful information on our Web site such as our consumer alerts and Ask the AG columns, as well as interesting news reports or tidbits we find on other Web sites.”

The Attorney General’s “All Consuming” blog is online at www.atg.wa.gov/allconsuming.aspx. Readers can sign up to receive messages by RSS feed.

Separate studies conducted in 2006 by Gallup and the Pew Internet and American Life Project show that 20-39 percent of Internet users in the United States read blogs.
