The Washington State Employment Security Department issued a warning about an online scam that preys on  unemployed workers by offering to help file their claim – for a fee. According to an alert issued by the agency, a Pasco man paid $9.95 to file his claim after logging onto to 2worksource.com. But the state's website is www.go2worksource.com; it's set up to help unemployed workers search for jobs.

The best place to file claims is www.esd.wa.gov. It's fast, secure and free.

Unemployed workers can also file claims by phone -- but they should wait for the snow to melt. Due to travel difficulties caused by the winter storms, ESD is operating with reduced staff and callers should expect long wait times. The toll-free number is 800-318-6022.
