Officer Dustin Goudschaal
Vancouver Police Department

On June 30, 2014, Vancouver Police Officer Dustin Goudschaal while working traffic enforcement on a motorcycle made traffic stop on a stolen vehicle.   The driver of the stopped vehicle immediately started shooting at Officer Goudschaal who sustained seven gunshot wounds.  Officer Goudschaal returned fire and assisted citizens who rendered first aid to him.

On April 21, 2013, Federal Way Police Officer Kyle Buchanan along with other officers responded to a shots fired call.  Upon arrival the officers were confronted by a shotgun armed suspect who refused to respond to their commands to drop the shotgun and were fired upon by the officers.  The suspect had just killed four individuals prior to being confronted by the officers.

On April 21, 2013, Federal Way Police Officer Nicholas Wong along with other officers responded to a shots fired call.  Upon arrival the officers were confronted by a shotgun armed suspect who refused to respond to their commands to drop the shotgun and was fired upon by the officers.  The suspect had just killed four individuals prior to being confronted by the officers.

On December 31, 2013 Deputies Benjamin Herrin and Kurtis Lont responded to a check the safety and welfare call.  Upon arrival at the scene and as they approached the residence the suspect immediately started shooting at them.  In order to protect unarmed citizens and other approaching officers Deputies Herrin and Lont returned fire, disarmed the suspect and provided first aid.

On December 31, 2013 Deputies Kurtis Lont and Benjamin Herrin responded to a check the safety and welfare call.  Upon arrival at the scene and as they approached the residence the suspect immediately started shooting at them.  In order to protect unarmed citizens and other approaching officers Deputies Lont and Herrin  returned fire, disarmed the suspect and provided first aid.

Sergeant Michael DeBock
Duvall Police Department

On September 15, 2014 Duvall Police Sergeant Michael DeBock responded to a suspicious activity call and attempted to contact the suspect, who immediately entered his vehicle and drove towards Sergeant DeBock.  As he approached the suspect started firing a firearm at Sergeant DeBock, who returned fired and sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.  Sergeant DeBock pursued the fleeing suspect vehicle until he was assured that other responding officers were able to continue the pursuit.  Sergeant DeBock than sought medical attention for himself.

Thurston County Sheriff's Office

On November 30, 2014, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brett Campbell and Yelm Police Department Officer Devon Taylor responded to a traffic accident where an occupied vehicle came to rest in an irrigation canal.  Deputy Campbell and Officer Taylor working together were able to break out the rear window of the vehicle and pulling the driver to safety, thereby saving her life.
