Use of Force Policy Disclaimer

The Use of Force Policy and accompanying information below are provided as-is by the law enforcement agency

Agency's use-of-force policy is consistent with the AGO model policy:
No
Why agency's use-of force policy departs from the AGO model policy:
The AGO’s model policy was adopted in full except for the following:
• Section IV.E.1.a. – We added the following to the policy, “Identification is unnecessary when the officer has objectively reasonable grounds to believe the person is aware of this fact.”
• Section IV.H.3. – We do not issue, carry, or train on the use of Electronic Control Weapons. Therefore, we added "ECW deploying" before "officers shall..." to the model policy language, “A the earliest safe opportunity at the scene controlled by law enforcement, ECW deploying officers shall remove ECW probes, unless probes are in a sensitive area, such as the head, breast, or groin.”
• Section VI.C. – Projectile Impact Weapons – We added the following statement, “WSGC officers do not carry and are not trained on the use of Projectile Impact Weapons.” Therefore, we did not include the model policy language for Project Impact Weapons.
• Section VI.D. – Electronic Control Weapons - We added the following statement, “WSGC officers do not carry and are not trained on the use of Electronic Control Weapons.” Therefore, we did not include the model policy language for Electronic Control Weapons.
• Section VII.A. – Spit Guards - We added the following statement, “WSGC officers do not carry and are not trained on the use of Spit Guards.” Therefore, we did not include the model policy language for Spit Guards.
How agency's use-of-force policy is consistent with RCW 10.120.020:
Our policy is consistent with RCW 10.120.020. Model policy was adopted except for the types of equipment we do not issue.
