The Attorney General’s Wing Luke Civil Rights Division works to protect the civil rights of everyone in Washington.  The Attorney General enforces state and federal laws, including laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, status as a family with children, honorably discharged veteran or military status, status as a breastfeeding mother, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal.

The Wing Luke Civil Rights Division investigates discrimination in a range of areas, including in employment, housing, education, credit and insurance transactions, and at government offices and businesses that are open to the public.  The Civil Rights Division works closely with the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division and the Washington State Human Rights Commission.

Attorney General Nick Brown today joined a coalition of 22 other attorneys general in urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to reverse a dangerous new policy ending investigations and public reporting of deaths that occur shortly after people are released from ICE custody.

To close out National Military Appreciation Month, the Attorney General’s Office released a new resource guide today for military service members in Washington informing them of their rights and protections.

On Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Office posted a hub for information about the rights of Washingtonians. The webpage brings together Know Your Rights guides in one place so Washingtonians can easily find the answers to questions about their rights.

AG Brown sues Providence Health & Services over illegal treatment of pregnant and nursing employees

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown today sued Providence Health & Services in King County Superior Court, alleging that Providence repeatedly failed to provide reasonable accommodations required under state law to pregnant and nursing employees.
