Public Counsel announces settlement agreement with NW Natural

SEATTLE – The Attorney General’s Public Counsel Section, which represents the public in utility rate cases, announced today that a settlement has been reached between NW Natural and other parties concerning the company’s proposal to increase natural gas service rates.

Public Counsel Section Chief Simon ffitch said he believes the settlement is in the best interest of NW Natural’s residential and small-business customers.

JURY AGREES WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL, SENDS COE TO MCNEIL ISLAND

SPOKANE—A Spokane jury today decided in favor of Attorney General Rob McKenna’s petition to send convicted rapist Kevin Coe to the state’s Special Commitment Center at McNeil Island.

“Today’s decision keeps the state’s most notorious sexual predator off the streets,” McKenna said. “Kevin Coe has never shown regret for the pain he’s inflicted and never agreed to treatment. Perhaps he’ll reconsider during his stay at McNeil Island.”

Florida company accused of charging homeowners for empty promises

SPOKANE – They call themselves “United Home Savers” and pledge to help homeowners facing foreclosure. But the Attorney General’s Office says a Florida-based business and its owners actually preyed on Washington residents.

“United Home Savers is a misnomer,” Attorney General Rob McKenna said. “The company promised to rescue homeowners from foreclosure while looting the emergency change jars of families already at high risk of losing their homes.”

Washington to receive share of $62 million consumer protection settlement with Zyprexa manufacturer

OLYMPIA -- Attorney General McKenna today announced that he, along with 33 other attorneys general, reached a record $62 million settlement with Eli Lilly and Company concerning allegations that the company marketed its antipsychotic drug Zyprexa for unapproved uses. The settlement is the largest multistate consumer protection pharmaceutical settlement and follows closely on the heels of the states’ $58 million agreement with Merck in May 2008 regarding its product Vioxx.

McKenna to provide multilingual anti-fraud support

SEATTLE—Attorney General Rob McKenna and five interpreters will arm Seattle’s Asian communities with fraud-fighting tools Saturday.

McKenna’s office, the Asian Pacific American Resource Network (APARN), and the Asian Counseling & Referral Service (ACRS) organized the Theft and Medical Fraud Prevention Event, being held this Saturday at the Asian Counseling & Referral Service office.
