Washington State Sues Trump Administration Over Unlawful Conditions on Funding for K-12 Schools

$1.4 billion in federal financial assistance at risk in Washington 

SEATTLE — Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown today, as part of a coalition of 19 attorneys general, filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Education’s threat to withhold federal funding from state and local agencies that refuse to abandon lawful programs and policies promoting equal access to education.

Washington state joins coalition of AGs supporting law firm singled out by executive order

OLYMPIA — Attorney General Nick Brown has joined 20 other attorneys general in an amicus brief in support of law firm Susman Godfrey, which is challenging an unconstitutional presidential order issued as retribution against the firm for representing clients in the aftermath of the 2020 election and defending the integrity of that election.

The order, similar to others targeting specific law firms for who they’ve represented, violates the firm’s rights to free speech, due process, and other constitutional protections.

AG’s civil rights, consumer protection investigation results in $180,000 payment from agricultural grower King Fuji Ranch

KENNEWICK — Following an Attorney General’s Office investigation into discriminatory employment practices and misrepresentations to local farmworkers about agricultural job opportunities, King Fuji Ranch, a Richland-based agricultural company, will reform its hiring practices and pay $180,000 to the Attorney General’s Office.

There is no authority for removing names of law enforcement officers from a Brady list based simply on the passage of time. Whether other circumstances might justify removal from a Brady list is a fact-specific inquiry not susceptible to an across-the-board answer. But case law makes clear that prosecutors should err on the side of disclosure in any case in which they are unsure.
