Washington sues to block abrupt and confusing attempt to illegally restrict SNAP eligibility

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown today joined 21 other attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to stop the federal government from unlawfully cutting off Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for thousands of lawful permanent residents. Brown and the coalition are seeking to block new guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that wrongly treats several groups of legal immigrants as ineligible for food assistance, including permanent residents who were granted asylum or admitted as refugees.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is illegally upending supports for tens of thousands of Americans experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness with abrupt changes that will limit access to long-term housing and other services, according to a lawsuit filed today by a coalition of states co-led by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown.

Washington wins lawsuit to protect libraries, museums, and other small agency programs

The Washington State Attorney General’s Office today won a lawsuit to protect four federal agencies that provide services and funding supporting public libraries and museums, workers, and minority-owned businesses nationwide. The United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island today granted a motion for summary judgment brought by Attorney General Nick Brown and a coalition of 20 other attorneys general.

The court’s order permanently blocks the Trump administration from eliminating these four agencies:

Bonaventure will pay $7 million to improve services at 10 long-term care facilities in WA

Bonaventure Senior Living has agreed to pay $7 million to improve its services and a $250 credit to each of about 800 Washington residents, following a consumer protection investigation into complaints of inadequate care at 10 senior living facilities in the state.

Bonaventure is an Oregon-based company that operates 15 long-term care facilities in Washington, including the 10 communities that are part of this settlement. The facilities in question are located in Arlington, Bellingham, Bothell, East Wenatchee, Lacey, Puyallup, Richland, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver.
