Washington joins states suing Trump administration for illegally suspending SNAP benefits

Coalition urges court to immediately restore SNAP funding relied upon by 42 million Americans 

Attorney General Nick Brown joined a coalition of 22 other attorneys general and three governors today in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for unlawfully suspending the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps more than 40 million Americans buy food.

A Snohomish County Superior Court sentenced Micah Snyder to 160 months in prison last week after he pled guilty to stealing more than $750,000 in high-end sneakers and jewelry in multiple burglaries throughout King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties. The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case of organized retail theft.

AG Brown urges Ninth Circuit to block federal overreach in National Guard case

Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown has joined a supplemental amicus brief urging the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear en banc a case involving the president’s unprecedented use of federal authority to seize control of state National Guard troops over a governor’s objection.

“We know this is wrong. We know this is un-American. And we will continue to raise the alarm about the president’s unconstitutional vision for using the military against civilians,” Brown said.

Online clothing retailer will pay refunds to dozens of Washingtonians to resolve deceptive advertising and billing claims

Dozens of Washington consumers will receive refunds, with the average totaling about $2,500, from an online clothing retailer as part of a settlement resolving claims the company deceptively steered shoppers into recurring monthly payments that were difficult to cancel.

Judge blocks NOAA’s termination of $9 million in climate funding for Washington

Washington won an order in federal court today blocking the Trump administration’s termination of more than $9 million in funding that would help the state build resilience to the growing hazards posed by climate change.

U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman of the Western District of Washington granted a preliminary injunction blocking the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from terminating the funding and impeding Washington’s access to the awards.
