Three dental practices in Southwest Washington reached settlements totaling more than $1 million to resolve allegations that they engaged in fraudulent billing practices that overcharged the Medicaid program.

“Accuracy and honesty from healthcare providers are fundamental to the integrity of the Medicaid system and our ability to help people get the care they need,” Attorney General Nick Brown said. “These settlements are one piece of our many efforts to safeguard the Medicaid program from fraud and abuse.”

The Washington State Attorney General’s Office is challenging the energy utility Avista’s proposal to increase customer electric rates by 25% and gas rates by 10% over the next four years. 

Attorney General Nick Brown led a coalition with 13 other attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting three lawsuits challenging the Trump administration’s decision to authorize an oil and gas program that would maximize development of the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

The states have filed the amicus brief in three separate lawsuits filed by Alaska Native villages, communities, and environmental non-profit organizations.

Attorney General Nick Brown and a multistate coalition won a final victory Monday in their lawsuit challenging the federal government’s unlawful order to freeze all federal permitting for wind energy projects when the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit dismissed the Trump administration’s appeal.

Attorney General Nick Brown sent a letter today to 39 county prosecutors and more than 250 municipal attorneys offering the office’s assistance in protecting the rights of Washingtonians to organize politically through the initiative and referendum process.

Attorney General Nick Brown today joined a coalition with 19 other attorneys general in suing the federal administration over the addition of new contract terms that—in the name of purging any “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) initiatives—impose unclear and confusing requirements on state agencies doing business with the federal government.

Washingtonians will receive nearly $1 million in restitution through a bipartisan multistate settlement with GS Labs resolving claims that the company, which ran COVID-19 testing sites, overcharged patients and failed to deliver timely test results.

The 18-state coalition, co-led by Washington, investigated a number of problems with GS Labs’ nationwide testing practices from 2020 through 2022, including that: 

A final ruling Monday from the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts vacated the Trump administration’s unlawful imposition of a $100,000 tax on new H-1B visa petitions following a multistate lawsuit that included Washington Attorney General Nick Brown. 

“This win helps keep our state at the forefront of highly specialized research that drives our world’s most dynamic industries,” said Brown. “Unchecked, this illegal tax would have massively increased costs for Washington state agencies, public universities, and public colleges.”
