O’Reilly will pay $5.6M for widespread denial of pregnancy and nursing accommodations to Washington workers

Women across Washington who alleged discrimination and retaliation related to their pregnancies while working for O’Reilly Auto Parts stores, and the distribution center in Puyallup, will receive compensation under a $5.6 million consent decree between the employer and the State of Washington.

AG Brown asks appeals court to reject Department of Energy’s order to revive the TransAlta coal power plant

Attorney General Nick Brown today asked the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to reject an illegal attempt by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to command the reopening of TransAlta’s decommissioned coal power plant in Centralia. 

Additionally, Brown sued DOE in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington alleging the federal agency violated the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by unlawfully withholding records related to that order to reopen the coal power plant.

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has opened the claims process for Washington farmworkers who worked for Cornerstone Ranches, Cornerstone Orchards, or Cornerstone Farm Management and who may be entitled to receive compensation through a $1 million settlement. 

AG Brown names Patricio Marquez new head of Wing Luke Civil Rights Division

Attorney General Nick Brown has named Managing Assistant Attorney General Patricio Marquez to serve as the Division Chief of the Wing Luke Civil Rights Division in the Attorney General’s Office (AGO).

Marquez joined the AGO in 2014 and was the third lawyer hired into the then-Civil Rights Unit in 2016. He has been a manager in the division for the last seven years and has demonstrated his ability to serve as a strong leader and steward of the Civil Rights Division, as well as a member of the AGO’s leadership team.

Washington-led coalition wins Ninth Circuit ruling for school mental health grants

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals sided with Washington and 15 other states today in their fifth court victory against the U.S. Department of Education’s unlawful discontinuation of previously approved mental health grants for K-12 schools.
