SEATTLE – Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna today announced a lawsuit against three California-based Internet affiliate advertisers and their respective business entities. The defendants are accused of sending anonymous “Net Send” messages to consumers’ computers that simulate Windows operating system warnings, transmitting bundled software that changes Internet browser home pages, and marketing registry-cleaner programs through the use of deceptive free scans.

New AARP Survey Shows Overwhelming Public Support for Credit Report Security Freeze

OLYMPIA – Attorney General Rob McKenna joined legislators and leaders from AARP and the Washington Credit Union League today in encouraging the state Legislature to give all Washington residents the opportunity to freeze access to their credit reports. They believe a preventative security freeze bill is needed to help individuals protect themselves from potential identity theft and financial destruction.

(“Samsung”), resolving allegations that Samsung and others major computer chip manufacturers fixed prices of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). 

OLYMPIA – Attorney General Rob McKenna will conduct a press conference tomorrow on proposed legislation that would give all Washington residents the opportunity to freeze unauthorized access to their credit reports.

McKenna will be joined by legislators, representatives of the Washington Credit Union League and AARP, which will reveal results from a new survey that found the vast majority of Washington state consumers support security freeze legislation.

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Attorney General’s Public Counsel Section filed testimony today with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) questioning key parts of a proposal by Qwest that would allow the company to increase residential telephone service prices without review by the WUTC. Customers can share their thoughts about the proposal during a hearing March 6 in Tacoma.
