More phone scams being reported:

  • A Puyallup woman contacted our office about her mom received a call from someone claiming to be with Comcast. The caller knew her last name and said she'd been approved to try out a new package of "free channels." The caller then asked to confirm a phone number and address, but the contact information was wrong. The would-be victim asked the caller to identify herself. The caller refused to give her name and hung up.
  • Cascade Natural Gas is warning customers about fraudulent phone calls claiming the company has a new customer service number. Apparently, if you call it, you receive a "service charge" on your phone bill. The number's the same: 1-888-522-1130. (Thanks, Bellingham Herald consumer blog, for the story.)
  • A Bothell woman received a call saying she won $5 million and a Mercedes. Of course, she would have to pay something first. The next day, she received another call saying she won $2 million and a BMW. A few days later, she received a third call saying she'd again won millions and would have to sign for a registered letter to accept her winnings. Unfortunately, it sounds like cons have her number. But at least she didn't fall for their lies.
