Scammers posing as employees of the state Department of Revenue are calling Washington businesses. Businesses have received robocalls saying that Department of Revenue has been trying to reach them about their taxes, DOR warned. The phone message directs businesses to call a 1-800 number that is just 1 digit away from the department's real phone number. When the call is made, a recording says the number has changed and directs the caller to call an international number beginning with the digits 101. If you call that number, you'll be charged some hefty rates.

Just so you know, Revenue's tax agents do contact businesses by phone on overdue accounts, and they do leave messages asking taxpayers to call a toll-free number, 1-800-631-4028.
