We've told you many times how to check your free credit report three times a year but there's another free report you may not know about -- it tracks your negative banking history, if you have one.

The report you receive at www.annualcreditreport.com shows your open accounts and your history of credit card and loan payments. The information comes from Equifax, TransUnion and Experian.

ChexSystems and Telecheck keep records on consumers who have bounced checks and missed payments. Banks check these files before agreeing to open an account for you. You can request their reports for free, as well.

ChexSystems will let you submit your request online, by mail or by phone, while TeleCheck requires you to call 1-800-TELECHECK.

Remember, other sites that offer so-called "free credit reports" can really cost you.
