Welcome to the Washington State Attorney General’s online Data Privacy Hub.

This webpage has important information for Washingtonians to learn about our state’s data privacy laws, to provide insight into the work the Attorney General’s Office is doing to enforce and improve data privacy practices within our state, and to learn about important data privacy concepts that can help consumers protect their data.

2025 Data Privacy Survey

Washingtonians generate a massive amount of personal data every day. This information is collected by a wide variety of sources, including smart devices within our homes, social media apps on our phones, and web browsers that monitor the websites we visit, the products we purchase, and the places we travel to.

In July of 2025, the Attorney General’s Office launched a Data Privacy Survey to learn about the data privacy concerns and challenges facing Washingtonians. This survey provided residents an opportunity to share what is and isn’t working with their online experiences, their feelings about and knowledge of data privacy, and what they want to see from the Attorney General’s Office and policymakers in the future.

The survey received over 700 responses from residents across our state. Survey respondents were overwhelmingly dissatisfied with the current state of data privacy policies and practices in Washington, and expressed a high level of frustration and distrust toward data collectors. Respondents broadly expressed a desire for limits on data collection and usage, as well as increased transparency in how and why data is collected.

These findings will directly inform the Attorney General’s Office’s ongoing work on data privacy issues.
