SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson today announced a $63,000 resolution of an investigation into alleged unfair debt collection practices and deceptive advertising by retailer Freedom Stores, Inc. The alleged violations included filing lawsuits against Washington military service members in Virginia without their knowledge and contacting commanding officers with details of a service member’s debt.

SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced a Friday court order against EC New Horizons and EC Horizons requires repeat offenders Edwin Cruz and Maurice Terry to pay $234,000. Cruz and Terry provided unlawful immigration assistance to over 400 Washington victims. The resolution includes $149,000 in money back for victims.

SEATTLE — Today Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced that his office is taking action to combat illegal immigration services and crack down on “notario” fraud.  The AG’s Office filed legal actions involving four separate entities engaged in scams targeting immigrant consumers in Washington. Ferguson also announced a $125,000 grant to prevent immigration services fraud and ensure immigrant consumers have greater access to legal assistance.

OLYMPIA — Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson has stopped the deceptive business practices used by Lynnwood, Wash. company Emerald Capital Preservation, Inc. (ECP) and its owner Donald Smith, who failed to disclose a financial conflict of interest to veteran clients and charged unreasonable fees for basic services. The enforcement action announced today includes $26,564 in restitution to 35 victims.

SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson has filed a lawsuit against a Snohomish couple who scammed elderly Washington residents applying for Medicaid and veterans benefits.  The Attorney General’s Office alleges that the Cooks’ actions violated the state Consumer Protection Act.

SEATTLE — Today marks the 180th day since President Obama announced a series of reforms he was undertaking by executive action.  Under the Obama Administration’s plan, millions of families, including thousands of Washington residents, would today be filing requests under the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program (DAPA).  Instead, implementation of this and other reform initiatives has been delayed by a misguided lawsuit led by the state of Texas.
